Joseph Doughty

Joseph “Joe” Doughty, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on June 8, 2025, at the age of 72.

Born on May 2, 1953, Joe lived a life defined by curiosity, craftsmanship, and care. He spent more than 35 years working in information technology at Marriott International, a career that perfectly blended his love of learning with his deep technical talent. A proud graduate of the University of Maryland with a degree in accounting, Joe never stopped growing, building, or exploring new skills and hobbies.

To those who knew him best, Joe was a Renaissance man. Endearingly known as “Joe Fix-It,” he could often be found taking apart computers just to challenge himself to put them back together. His talents extended far beyond the digital world—he was an avid woodworker and self-taught craftsman, building or restoring furniture and fixtures throughout the home he shared with his wife, Jodene. He loved hiking, biking, working out, grabbing a beer at a local brewery, experimenting with a new cocktail, and could always be counted on for a (terrible but well-timed) Dad joke.

Joe believed that with Reddit and YouTube, anything was possible—and he proved it every day. Whether learning something new, tackling a project, or supporting a loved one, Joe approached life with quiet confidence, persistence, and a sense of humor.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jodene Doughty; his two daughters, Jamie and Jordan Doughty; son-in-law Thomas Mika, his sisters, Dorothy Doughty and Marjorie Sparks; countless cousins who he also considered to be siblings; and multiple nieces and a nephew. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, at Stauffer Funeral Home located at 8 E. Ridgeville Boulevard, Mt. Airy, MD 21771, followed by a repast at the Doughty home.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Joe by fixing something, building something, or learning something new—just as he would have done.
