Joseph Lee French

Joseph Lee French "Sonny", of Point of Rocks, was born on July 3rd, 1939 and died on June 1st, 2025. He was married to Emma (Payne) French for 61 and 1/2 years who died on April 30th 2023.

Sonny was the son of the late George Franklin and Pauline "Polly" French of Point of Rocks.

Sonny retired from Montgomery County Public Schools as a maintenance worker in 1986. Sonny served his country and was drafted in the Army in 1962 and served till 1964. He was stationed in Fairbanks Alaska, Fort Wainwright. He built his own home with many family and friends.

Sonny and Emma enjoyed going on bus trips together. He loved country music, bowling, gardening and fishing. He enjoyed going out to eat, especially to Golden Corral and McDonalds for breakfast. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He was also very proud of his grandchildren.

He is survived by two sons, Stratton French, wife Cathy, of Point of Rocks, and Keith French of Hancock, Maryland and Grandchildren Stephanie and Stephen French. He is also survived by siblings Joanne Henry, brothers Dale French, wife Peggy, and David French, wife Elisabeth. He is predeceased by his brother Jerry French and many close friends.

A special thanks to Citizens Nursing Home, Hospice of Frederick County and Lynn French for their love and care of Sonny.

Officiating will be Pastor Kim Hintzman and Pastor Marina Brust

Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Henry, Martin Aument, Matthew French, Keith French, Stratton French, and Chuck Fry.

A visitation will occur on from 10-11 am on Friday June 6, 2025 at Stauffer Funeral Home Brunswick, 1100 North Maple Avenue, Brunswick Maryland 21716. A service will follow at 11 am, with a Burial at St. Paul's Episcopal Church located at 1914 Ballenger Creek Pike, Point of Rocks Maryland 21777.
