Joseph "Joey" Hottel, Jr., age 56, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, at his home in Frederick, Maryland.
Born on March 4, 1970, in Leesburg, Virginia, Joey was the son of Joseph Clinton Hottel and Joanne Bell Kirkpatrick.
Joey graduated from Loudoun Valley High School and grew up on the family farm, Egypt Farms, located in Loudoun County and later in Burkittsville, Maryland.
Farm life was not simply where he lived-it was who he was. From an early age, he developed a deep love for tractors, farm machinery, pickup trucks, and the rhythms of country life. He found joy in the simple but meaningful tasks that kept a farm running and was happiest when he was outdoors, helping with chores, working with equipment, or simply being part of the farming community he loved.
Joey remained a kind-hearted man with a beautiful smile who appreciated the simple pleasures of life. He took pride in contributing where he could and enjoyed the familiar surroundings of the farms that were his home for much of his life.
Joey was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Clinton Hottel; his mother, Elaine Day Hottel. He is survived by his sister, Hannah Hottel; his niece, Reagan Burnham; his brother, John Fremont Hottel; and his nephews Collin and Landon Hottel; extended family; and many relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.
A memorial service will be held at Stauffer Funeral Home in Brunswick, Maryland, on Monday, June 22, 10 AM.
