Joseph Cleveland Nichols Jr.

July 16, 1967 — June 7, 2024

Frederick

Joseph Cleveland Nichols, Jr of Frederick, MD went to his eternal home on June 7, 2024.

Known to all of his many friends as Joey he was a man who lived a hard life but ultimately turned his life over to the Lord and found peace.

Joey was born July 16, 1967 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Md, the son of Joseph Cleveland Nichols, Sr. (now residing in Mesa, Az) and the late Sherry Lynn (Page) Nichols. He is survived by his full sister Wendy Lee Nichols and half sister Stephanie Page Tomlinson and half brother Joe Johnson.

Most important to Joey, he is survived by his daughter Kara E. Nichols, (Cory Lance), and grandsons Adrian and Avery Lance of Frederick.

Joey grew up in Montgomery County and attended Wheaton High School. His life journey took him to California where he was a rock singer. He then made his way back to Maryland where was in a relationship with Judy Bowers and then was later married to Janet Nichols. Her children were Janel Stacey, Caitlin Crutchley, and Cody Crutchley.

Joey was a carpenter, renovator, painter, and tile setter who was known for meticulous quality in all of his work. He was an employee and owner of several construction and home improvement businesses. He did many jobs in and around the area and was known for the excellent quality of his workmanship.

Joey always loved to sing and was a frequent performer as a soloist and with friends at many local establishments.

Following the home building crisis in 2008 Joey went through a difficult period in his life, ultimately becoming a part of the homeless population in Frederick, but eventually Joey found his way to sobriety and the Lord and became a regular and faithful attendee of Calvary Assembly of God in Walkersville, MD. Joey was especially proud to be a member of and contributor of the men’s ‘Bubba’ class.

Despite his challenges Joey became a good friend to many in the church and community and had an uncanny ability to befriend anyone who he met.

Joey was a sinner saved by God's grace and mercy. His earthly body was ravaged by a hard lived life, his heavenly body is free of all that!!!
