Listen to Obituary

Judy Ellen Isner Green went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 10th, 2026. She passed away at her residence after a recent illness. Little else besides her Savior's voice calling her home could've stopped her from continuing a life full of devotion and service to others.

Judy was born July 1st, 1944, in Cumberland, MD and resided throughout her childhood in Short Gap, WV. Her parents were the late Howard Edward Isner and the late Nina Ruth (Powell) Isner Jones.

She graduated from Fort Ashby High School, followed by Catherine's Business School and then Shepherd College, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in music and special education and met her future husband, Robert. She also completed work towards her master’s degree in special education from George Washington University while juggling marriage and family life.

She performed with and directed more musical groups than can be mentioned here, from her earliest days until the time of her passing. She was always an active member of a church, with her time at Benevola United Methodist Church in Boonsboro going back to 1970 when she became a member. She has held countless volunteer ministry positions from youth ministry to choir director to committee member through the years and played piano and organ when the occasion called for it. She participated in Sunday School, quilting ministry, the food pantry and outreach at the Union Rescue Mission, church dinners, celebrations, memorials, and fundraisers. Her church family truly was FAMILY.

She was an active member of the Dry Run Homemakers Club since 1979 and helped raise thousands for scholarships awarded through that organization’s Annual Scholarship Fair through candy making and sales.

Judy taught music in public schools, studios, and privately at her home to hundreds of students over the years. She also was a substitute teacher in various subjects for many years. She entered employment with the United States Postal Service in 1991 and stayed there until her retirement, forming lasting friendships with her fellow co-workers that continued with monthly lunches up until the time of her passing. She often said she couldn't have asked for better people to work with.

Despite her many and varied activities and talents such as - sewing everything from costumes to wedding dresses, to jigsaw puzzles, to mass production of buckeyes and other homemade candies and rolls - music remained her biggest love, and one she shared with her family. She and her late husband, "Bunny" formed Easy Listenin', a variety dance band and, together with friends, played at engagements that ranged from state dinners and elite clubs to local parks and family gatherings. She was named after Judy Garland, and although her sound was very different, her stage presence and love of singing proved the name was aptly chosen.

She ran a personal card ministry and sent handwritten cards and letters to any and everyone - for every occasion imaginable, and often with no occasion at all. During covid, she unceremoniously began a puzzle swap, dropping jigsaw puzzles at people's doorsteps and swapping them out for others when they were finished. This practice continued until the present where she would load up her trunk and offer puzzles to anyone who wanted them and take others in trade to continue the exchanges. She was well known for randomly dropping thoughtful gifts or necessary items on doorsteps, much to the delight of the recipients.

She will be greatly missed by many whose lives she touched with her thoughtfulness, care, and concern for others.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Robert Russell ("Bob"/"Bunny") Green, Son Robert Russell Green, Jr ("B. J"), Grandsons Luke Remington Wyatt, and Gavin Tyler Ritchey, one nephew, Randy Isner, and two beloved cats, Oreo and Mittens.

She is survived by three daughters, Michelle Kalendek and husband Daniel, of Perry Hall, MD; Tonya Oberhaus and husband Jeffrey of Fernandina Beach, FL; and Nicole Ritchey-Conway and partner Craig Sorrentino of Boonsboro, MD; Six grandchildren: Bethany Green and fiancé Manning Burns; Tyson, Logan, and Ariel Ritchey; Aurora Sorrentino, and Faith Kalendek; Two great-grandchildren: Carmen Avery Perez and Dylan Lucas Burns. She is also survived by one brother, the Reverend Gary Isner and wife Nellie of Cocoa Beach, FL, and one brother-in-law, Ronald Green and wife Suzanne of Catonsville, MD; One niece, Allyson Green, four nephews, Doug Green and wife Leila; Howard Isner, Scott Isner and wife Penny, Robert Isner and wife Stephanie, many great nieces, nephews, cousins, and many cherished friends.

The family will receive friends and loved ones on Monday, May 18th from 6 - 8 pm at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro, MD. A brief service of Interment will be held at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown, MD on Tuesday, May 19th at 10 am and is open to all. Funeral services will follow at Benevola United Methodist Church at 11 am with the Reverend Suzanne Jones officiating. A luncheon and time of fellowship will be provided at the church after the service, and all are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

In lieu of flowers, Judy wished for memorial donations to be made to Benevola United Methodist Church for support of their ongoing music programs and ministries.
