Judith (Judy) Sylvia (Benetti) Perkins, 75, of Frederick, passed away on September 4, 2025 at Frederick Health Hospital receiving last rites and surrounded by her family.
She was born on September 21, 1949, in Bessemer, MI to the late Dante Doc Benetti and Lucy (Marchello) Benetti.
She attended A.D. Johnston High School and Gogebic Community College before earning her Bachelor's Degree (BA) from Northern Michigan University. It was there Judy met her husband, DeWight Perkins and they were married 52 years.
Family was at the heart of everything Judy did. Raising her children and being involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren was her greatest joy. Her daughter once said to Judy "If I didn't have you as a Mom, I would choose you as a close friends."
Judy is survived by her husband, DeWight; children David (spouse Crystal), Brian (spouse Jessica), and Diane; grandchildren Brady, Carter, and Anthony; sister Jeanne Benetti; and brother John Benetti (spouse Luann).
Judy worked for the Maryland State Department of Education and taught English to grades 5-12 at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School in Charles County as well through the Home Hospital Institution Services in Montgomery and Frederick counties. Judy retired from teaching in 2007.
Judy was an avid reader, loved crossword and sudoku puzzles, trips to the beach, pasties from Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and enjoyed new restaurants. Judy also loved watching Baltimore Orioles baseball, Penn State college football, and Green Bay Packers professional football. She grew up in the Upper Peninsula and shared many fon memories of her childhood with the family and Facebook UP group. Judy was also very proud of her Italian heritage with her family. She loved meeting up with the Home Hospital group for lunch, get-togethers, and keeping in touch with her Charles County school friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 12, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy, MD 21771.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Frederick County Humane Society.
