Karen Lee Gould

Karen Lee (Hukkala) Gould, 86, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life on Sunday, August 10, 2025. Her beloved husband of 65 years, Fred Charles Gould, passed on February 18, 2025.

Born on August 27, 1938, in Ironwood, MI, she was the daughter of the late Gabriel John and Saima Emilia (Johnson) Hukkala.

Karen graduated from Amundsen High School, Chicago, Illinois in June 1956. She attended Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois from 1956 to 1958, where she met her husband Fred Charles Gould at a Delta Zeta Sorority event. She won the nation-wide Campana’s College Beauty Queen contest and a trip to Hawaii with her close friend and cousin Sandy Wirtanen. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from University of Maryland in May 1993.

She is survived by her children, William Charles Gould (Ann), Susan Mae Gould Stuart and James Fred Gould (Sylvia); cherished grandsons, Peter James Stuart (Melanie), Dillon James Gould and Joshua Charles Gould; granddaughters Heather Mae Stuart, Delaney Christiane Gould, Cassidy Anelisa Gould, Sandra Johanna Gould, Sarah Karen Gould and Jenna Noëlle Gould; great granddaughter Allison Lynn Stuart.

She was preceded in death by her first-born son Daniel John Gould and sister, Gail Audrey Hukkala.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD where a celebration of Karen’s life journey will take place at 3pm. Rev. Shannon Sullivan and Pastor John Morrill will officiate. Interment will be at Mount Vernon Memorial Estates on Friday, September 12, 2025, in Lemont, IL.
