She was born on December 19, 1954 in West Lafayette, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Dr. John and Clea (Johnson) Greenawalt.
Karen graduated from Frostburg University and continued on to receive her Master’s degree from Hood College. Karen was a dedicated teacher with Frederick County Public Schools for 30 years and then taught kindergarten at Calvary Weekday Nursery School for 10 additional years. Teaching was not just her profession but her gift, and she touched countless lives throughout her career.
Karen was the devoted wife of Bob Rogers for 25 years. In addition to her loving husband, Karen is survived by her 5 children: Krista Mayne and her husband Kenny; Doug Rogers and his fiancee Brittney; Jason Haines and his wife Brandy; Kenny Rogers and his wife Brittani; Michael Haines and his wife Ashley. She was blessed with 14 grandchildren that she loved more than anything: Savannah, Mikaylee, Derrick, Hannah, Jaxon, Brantley, Aubree, Valarie, Ethan, Raylynn, Adam, Brody, Stella, and Michael. She was also loved by Loghan, Landon, and Lawson Day. Karen was a stepmom to the late Jon Haines and Brett Haines.
Karen is survived by her sister, Jennifer Tager. She also leaves behind her sister-in-laws Lynn Daly (Joe), Layne Fry (Carl), Lori Rogers, brother-in-law Andy Baum, and many cherished nieces and nephews. Karen was adopted at the age of 4 and, after 60 years, was blessed to connect with many of her siblings, forming relationships that she treasured.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jeffery Greenawalt; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Kathy Rogers; and her sister-in-law, Leigh Baum.
Karen loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and quilting. Each morning, Karen began her day reading her Bible and having quiet time with the Lord. Over the years, she also enjoyed “glamping” in the RV with her family and friends. Karen and Bobby loved retirement life together, enjoying days at the beach, traveling to new places, and attending their grandchildren’s games and competitions.
Karen was a faithful believer and an active member of South End Baptist Church where she served on many committees. She also started the Food Pantry many years ago and it still continues today as an outreach ministry to the community. After retirement, Karen and Bobby were actively attending Calvary Chapel Gulf Coast in Estero, Florida where they continued to worship and serve.
