Kathleen (Kathy) Rose Brown, beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023, in Frederick.
Born on June 11, 1957, in Paterson, NJ, to the late Katherine and Joseph Giamanco, Kathy grew up in and around Washington, DC. She attended and graduated from Colonel Zadok Magruder High School, where, upon completion, she obtained a job working as a government contractor for McDonnell Douglas.
In her later years, she held many different retail and customer service jobs, including a decade long stint as a telecommunications operator at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Maryland.
Kathy was known to be a loving and resilient woman who always showed empathy and grace to anyone she met, ensuring their needs were fulfilled before her own. She could easily make friends with those around her, owing to her cheerful demeanor.
In Kathy’s free time, she could often be found going on trips with family and friends, watching some of her favorite movies and television shows (with a fondness later in life for true crime stories), or just enjoying a good meal. She had a knack for cooking a great steak, and never steered away from enjoying a hamburger.
Kathy is survived by her former husband, Alphonse Brown, of Culpeper, Virginia; and their two sons, Kevin Brown of Clarksburg, Maryland and Corey Brown of Germantown, Maryland. She is also survived by her older sister, Michele Glinksy, of Columbus, Ohio; and her younger brother, Vincent Giamanco, of Mount Airy; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, in-laws and friends.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at All Souls Cemetery in Germantown, Maryland.
