Kenny and Marilyn Oland of Thurmont, MD, entered the kingdom of God on Monday, March 2nd and 3rd 2026 peacefully, together, holding hands as they did in life for 70 years.

Kenny was born in Frederick on June 17th, 1935. He was the last to survive with six brothers and three sisters, David Oland, Fred Oland, Sherretts Oland, Robert Oland, Richard Oland and Raymand Oland. His sisters were Patsy Harp, Elizabeth Oland and Catrina Koonze. He graduated from Frederick High School in 1953 and stayed friends with his classmates while enjoying weekly dinners with them. Kenny worked at Genstar until he retired in 1997 and then worked at RR Donnelly in Thurmont for many years.

Marilyn was born in Frederick on June 10th 1937. She had two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her brother, Chuck Linton and his wife, Vickie, as well as her sisters, Judy Linton, Jane Blickenstaff and Shirley Schultz. Her brother, Gene Linton, preceded her in death. Marilyn did not graduate from high school but one of her proudest moments in life was to graduate with her GED with her granddaughter in 1995. She worked at Clair Frock, retired from Weis Markets then worked for John Hagemann at the Center of Life Chiropractic for 27 years when she retired at 85 years old.

Kenny and Marilyn met in high school through their life-long best friends, Glenn and Jeannie Eaves, then married at the Natural Bridge on July 29th 1955 and in 1963, they moved to their home in Thurmont. They are survived by their three children, Kenny Oland and late wife Mellissa, Annette Leith and her husband Tom, Kimberly Flabbi and her husband Francis; their five grandchildren, Kristie Hopkins and husband Mark, Ben Flabbi, Ryann Leith, Curtis Oland and wife Courtney and Matt Leith; their six great-grandchildren, Alexa and Cassidy Hopkins, Norah Flabbi, Quinn Musser, Lincoln Oland and Micah Musser; and many more cousins, nieces and nephews.

Their family was the most important thing in their lives. They loved unconditionally at the deepest level. They made sure that their family all gathered for every holiday, birthdays and special events in our lives. We celebrated together, traveled together and made so many incredible memories together. Ken and Marilyn lived their life filled with God's love and spread that love to everyone they met. No one was an acquaintance, everyone was family. If you know their children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren, you knew Ken and Marilyn also, because they never missed anything in our lives.

They were pillars in our Thurmont community. Being a major part of the local community, their greatest part of their week, every week, was visiting the Thurmont Senior Center daily, eating with their friends and high school classmates, delivering food and flowers to those in need or not feeling well and visiting everyone they knew in nursing homes. For 70 years they attended numerous churches, never missing a Sunday.

On July 29, 155, Ken and Marilyn were married. They were the images of a Hallmark card. The adoration, devotion and unconditional love they had for each other was seen by all. They never left each other’s side. If one went, they both went. They chose each other with every breath they took for 70 years, even their last day here on earth together. Their story of love, compassion and grace is a story to be told. They are to definition of cherished love.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 104 East Main Street in Thurmont.

A celebration of Kenny and Marilyn's life together will take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at The Walkersville Grand Social Hall at the Walkersville Fire Company, 79 West Frederick Street in Walkersville, MD. Private final resting place ceremonies will be held at a later date.
