Kevin Barton Smith

Kevin Barton Smith, 70, of Walkersville, Maryland, passed from this life on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at his home.

Born on April 8, 1956, in Westminster, MD, he was the son of Nancy (Mann) Smith of Westminster and the late Walter Barton Smith.

He was a graduate of Westminster High School, 1974, and Towson State University, 1979, with a BS in Occupational Therapy. He was an active member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity while at Towson. Following graduation, he worked for Frederick County Public Schools as an Occupational Therapist.

Having been blessed with three careers over his working years, he later began employment in construction with Morgan Keller and Beazer Homes. Following his career there, he spent the 10 years prior to his retirement with NAPA Auto Parts as a salesperson.

Kevin enjoyed playing softball with the American Legion and was heavily involved with Special Olympics over the years. He was the Frederick County Director of Special Olympics from 1989-1994. He had a passion for helping others with mobility issues.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sons, Brian Smith and Matthew Smith (wife Kristin); grandson, Mason; and sister, Terry Haislip (husband Tim).

Friends will be received from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 40 Fulton Avenue in Walkersville, MD.

The family will have an additional visitation from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Thursday, June 25 at Calvary UMC, 3939 Gamber Road, Finksburg, MD 21048.

A graveside service will follow immediately at Providence Methodist Cemetery (which adjoins the church).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Special Olympics.
