Kimberly Dahms Klarmann, 54, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Frederick Health Hospital in Frederick, MD with George J Klarmann Jr, her husband of 25 years at her side.
Born on May 13, 1971, in Riverside, CA, she was the daughter of Dean Dayton Dahms of Frederick and the late Patricia Mae Dailey Dahms.
Kim grew up in Riverside and obtained her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the University of California Riverside, and in 2000 she earned a Ph.D. in Experimental Pathology at the University of Utah. She and George met while in graduate school at Utah. Though he took his time proposing, Kim patiently waited for him to get his act together.
Kim spent her entire post graduate career at the National Cancer Institute in Frederick. She did leukemia research as a post-doctoral fellow, ran the flow cytometry core lab, and finally worked at the Biological Testing Branch of the Developmental Therapeutics Program to help advance the discovery and development of new cancer therapeutic agents.
Kim had a beautiful smile and looked to find the positive in everything and everyone. She was kind and generous. Kim was curious by nature and loved to figure out solutions to puzzles and problems which made her a great scientist and inspired everyone around her. She loved being a pet mom to the 3 cats and 2 dogs that she and George had over the last 30 years. Kim loved the rain and Maryland’s green foliage, and she also loved tomatoes, sushi and anime. Her penmanship was stunning.
As a mentor and friend, she changed countless lives for the better through her kindness, guidance, and unwavering belief in others. She will be deeply missed. She will forever be a cherished friend.
Surviving in addition to her husband is her father
A celebration of Kimberly's life will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD. Interment will be private at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Lab Rescue LRCP.
