Kristine Steinborn Colby, age 73, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes in December of 2025 in her home. 

Kristine was born on August 8,1952, in Buffalo, NY, the younger daughter of the late Frederick J. and Edna B. Steinborn. 

She grew up in Buffalo and attended Buffalo Seminary, graduating in 1970. After graduating from American University in 1974, Kris worked for a law firm in Washington, DC when she met her husband, Lauren A. Colby, Esq. Married in 1984, they lived in Frederick, MD where she helped manage her husband’s law practice and shared adventures with him in his private plane until his death in 2012. Kris had an active retirement, volunteering for organizations like Heritage Frederick, going on Smithsonian tours and traveling. She loved art, was an avid fan of competitive figure skating and cared for animals. 

Besides her husband and parents, Kristine was predeceased by her sister, Karen Webb. 

She is survived by her nieces, Jennifer Taylor (Howard) of Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON, Lisa Pedersen (Kirk) of Toronto, ON; and her stepchildren, Charles Colby (Deborah) of Reston, VA and Francesca Snarski (Michael) of Baltimore, MD. Kristine is also survived by her grandniece and grandnephews; and her husband’s grandchildren. Kristine will be dearly missed by her beloved family and many friends. 

The Celebration of Life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Gladchuk Bros. Restaurant in Frederick.
