Larry James Bostian passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026 at Spring Arbor of Frederick in the memory care unit. Jim or Jimmy, as he was called by family and friends, was born August 26, 1937 to Donald and Beulah (Stimmel) Bostian. He had been married to his wife, Mary Frances (Warner) Bostian for 66 years.
Jim had served in the Army at Fort Hood, Texas during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a master mechanic having started his career at Key Chevrolet in Frederick, Stull-Dougherty Dealership in Thurmont and then with the Maryland State Police at Barracks B in Frederick as their mechanic. He made many lasting friendships with a lot of the policemen. He and his brother had a garage near Catoctin Furnace where they did some work, but it also was a place where friends came and enjoyed telling stories and solving a lot of the world's problems.
Jim loved mowing grass and could be found every Thursday morning during mowing season at Faith United Church of Christ on Opossumtown Pike with several friends mowing the grounds nd cemetery with his John Deere tractors. He loved that green and yellow color.
He had a calm and pleasant personality that drew people to him, and he was always ready to help with any task. He was a member of Faith UCC and took responsibility for many of the jobs that needed to be done around the church building. He also attended Lewistown United Methodist Church and helped with the Pot Pie dinners as long as he was able. He was a life- member of the Lewistown Fire Department where he had assigned himself as the main dishwasher for the social events. When he could no longer do as much work, the members put a chair in a strategic place so he could still be part of the action.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Fran, daughter, Francia Stanley (Joey); grandchildren, Bobby Stanley (Courtney), Lindsey Humphrey (Ben); great-granddaughter, Riley Jo Humphrey, brother, Buddy Bostian (Lottie), and nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, son, Larry W. Bostian, sister, Nancy LaMuth, and brother-in-law, Bob Warner.
Thanks for all the support of our church families, Faith UCC, Lewistown UMC and Graceham Moravian Church, our neighbors on Laurel Avenue, our Thursday-night-out group and for all the prayers lifted up for us by so many people. Thanks to the administrators and staff of Spring Arbor for their patience and care of Jim.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, March 27 at the Lewistown United Methodist Church, 11032 Hessong Bridge, Road, Thurmont, MD with visitation from 11 am -12 pm and service at 12:00 pm. Reception to follow at the Lewistown Fire Hall, 11101 Hessong Bridge Road, Frederick, MD 21701
