Lawrence Edward Heffner

Lawrence E. Heffner , 91, of Rosemont, Maryland, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, September 16, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was known to many by his childhood nickname "Finks" and his railroad nickname "Big Daddy".

Born on January 24, 1931, in Brunswick, MD, he was the son of the late George Washington Heffner and Bessie (Gladstone) Heffner.

He was the loving husband of Oneida H. Heffner, they were married for 69 years.  She passed away on September 9, 2021.

He proudly served in the United States Navy during 1951-1955 serving as a pipe fitter on the USS White Marsh and received the National Defense Service Medal.

He and his wife loved to travel, including a 52 day cruise around South America, a trip to the Holy Land and many other worldly adventures.  Lawrence loved family gatherings, including yearly trips to Ocean City.  He was happiest in his garden and was proud of his many years of service working on the railroad and his participation with Disaster Recovery through the Brownsville Church of the Brethren. 

He is survived by his children: Lawrence E. Heffner, Jr. (Janet), LaVonne Heffner, Karen Heffner (Connie Plater), Arthur Heffner (Kathy) and Lauren Lipps; 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by multiple nieces, nephews and other extended family members.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, 1 sister and a son-in-law.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 North Maple Avenue in Brunswick, MD.

A celebration of Lawrence's life  will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road in Brownsville, MD.  Pastor Calvin Park will officiate.  Interment will be at Brownsville Church of the Brethren Cemetery in  Knoxville, MD.

Memorial donations may be made to Brownsville Church of the Brethren at the above address.
