Lawrence D. Danner

Lawrence (Sonny) W. Danner was born in Trego, Maryland. He is the son of the late Gladys M. Smith Stottlemyer and the late Bruce W. Danner.

Lawrence was raised by his maternal grandparents most of his life, the late Elmer H. and Nellie T. Smith. Lawrence lived in Trego and Rohrersville areas most of his life. After the passing of his mother, he was placed in the care of The Arc of Washington County.

Sonny is survived by his niece, Roxanna Monck of Frederick, MD.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Leonard R. Danner; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Danner, of York, PA; and a stepfather, Elvin O. Stottlemyer, of Rohrersville, MD.

Lawrence worked at Goodwill in Hagerstown for many, many years.

He was a dedicated employee and was very reluctant to ever miss a day of work. He was known for his love of looking at car lots and trucks. Many car salespeople in Hagerstown and the surrounding areas knew Sonny. He and a friend visited lots nearly every Saturday for many years. Sonny loved cats. He enjoyed going to the Humane Society in Hagerstown and cuddling the kitties. Sonny had a wonderful memory and never forgot a face. He had a gentle spirit and sweet smile that made everyone he met smile.

A celebration of Lawrence's life journey will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Pastor David Kaplan will officiate. Burial will be held at Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown. There will be a visitation held one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home in Boonsboro.

Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Washington County.
