Leonard Melvin Diggs departed this life on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at his sister, Theresa Diggs-Williams’, home in Frederick, MD.
He was born September 24, 1951, to the late William Robert Diggs, Sr. and Pearl Dorsey Diggs.
Leonard, also known as ‘Lenny’ or ‘Scratch’, was one of 17 children, and is survived by his siblings: Shirley Foreman (Diggs), Betty McIntyre (Diggs), Irene Camara (Diggs), Theresa Williams (Diggs), Earl Diggs, Sr., and preceded in death by Williams Diggs, Jr., James Diggs, Austin Diggs, Sr., Thomas Diggs, Catherine McWilliams (Diggs), Christina McDaniel (Diggs), Delores Naylor (Diggs), Doris Kane (Diggs), Martha Haynesworth (Diggs), Della Mitchiner (Diggs) and Fred Diggs.
Lenny leaves to cherish his precious memories: daughter, Jessica Kline; grandchildren, Jade Thomas, Alexus Thomas and Daejean Shipley; and great-grandchildren, Ania Thomas and Xavier Thomas, all of Pennsylvania.
Lenny attended Frederick County Public Schools. He began his adulthood, at a young age, by obtaining his first job in construction with Buck Buchanan, a laborer, later moving on to becoming a landscaper in Lake Linganore, where he worked several years before moving on to work for RFK Tree Service. His last job was at Goodwill Industries, where he retired from the workplace.
Hunting and fishing were Lenny’s passion. He would leave early in the morning to fish or hunt, until it was dark. He often returned home empty-handed or with just one squirrel or a couple of fish.
Lenny usually stayed to himself, but, when he had family gatherings, he was always there cutting up with his siblings, nieces, and nephews, especially his brother, Earl, and nephew, Marvin.
Lenny reunites with his parents and grandparents, Albert Charles Dorsey, Josephine Hall Dorsey, Luther Diggs, and Maggie Smith Diggs.
Lenny enjoyed his country music. He wants everyone to remember him as being ornery, but with a place in his heart for everyone.
