Leonard Jerome Offutt, Jr.

Leonard Jerome Offutt Jr., 88, of Walkersville, Maryland, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.  He was the beloved husband of Winifred (Pairo) Offutt for 64 years. 

Born on April 9, 1935, in Sellman, MD, he was the son of Leonard Jerome Offutt Sr. and Mary Loretta (Davis) of Barnesville, MD.

Leonard was a 1954 graduate of Poolesville High School. He owned and operated Offutt Sharpening Service since 1977.  Leonard was a member of Maryland Draft Horse and Mule Association, American Cream Draft Horse Association, and St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church.  In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and spending time with friends and family.  Growing up in a farming family he became interested in and began raising Heritage Breed chickens as a child which was a lifelong endeavor.   He also owned and bred American Cream draft horses.  He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of animals and mentored many in their pursuits.  

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Catherine Offutt Murphy, and husband Paul of Hydes, MD As well as grandsons, Paul O’Malley Murphy, Jr. and Joseph Thomas Murphy. He is also survived by sisters M. Loretta Pugh of Frederick and Helen Mazzuca and husband Ralph of Washington DC, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, H. Anne Carlton, Notley J. Offutt Sr, James Stephen Offutt, Charles T. Offutt, and Lucille Walther.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A. (Fred), 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 am on Monday, February 26, 2024, at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 9190 Church Street in Union Bridge, MD.   Rev. Charles Wible will be the celebrant. Interment will be at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church Cemetery.
