Obituary

Lewis (Lew) Crocker Allen, 91, of Boonsboro, MD, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at home.

Born on May 30, 1934, in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Lewis Parker Allen and Frances Elizabeth (Dungan) Allen. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Lois Haag; and his son, Stephen Parker Allen.

In 1952, Lewis graduated from McKinley Tech High School, in DC. He played junior and senior varsity basketball. His team was undefeated his senior year. He has said “I was the 6th man of the Fabulous Five.” For a child who grew up in the city, Lewis developed strong small town values from his summers in the country with his two sets of grandparents in Calao and Montross, Northern Neck of VA.

After high school, Lewis worked on the mail train up and down the East Coast, joined the Naval Reserves for several years, then worked as a printer at McArdle Printing in Silver Spring, MD, advancing from apprentice pressman , to pressman, and finally to lithographer, training new apprentices. He was McArdle’s representative to the printers union, retiring in 1988.

Lewis loved to play basketball and tennis and going to auctions. He worked night shifts so that he could participate in those activities during the day. He was known for his strong work ethic, good nature, stories and jokes, wisdom, affection for animals of all sizes and love of 19th century American Art. When Katherine retired in 2006, they moved to Boonsboro, due to their wish to be closer to nature and to their patronage of the Fine Arts Museum of Washington County in Hagerstown, MD.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2026 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. The family will receive friends immediately following services Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Expressions of sympathy may be offered to the family at StaufferFuneralHome.com.
