Linda Lou Heffner, 80, passed away at home on Friday, March 6, 2026.
Born and raised in Brunswick, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Doris Heffner, Sr. After graduating from Brunswick High School in 1963, she started her career at the Atomic Energy Commission, and retired from the U.S. Department of Energy in 2001. From an early age, Linda dedicated her life to serving the Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE), Ladies Auxiliary Post 1136, working tirelessly to fundraise for charities. She served in many roles as an Eagle member, at the local, state, and national level. Her greatest honor was when she was inducted as the Grand Madame President in 1999 - the culmination of her life’s work that kicked off a year-long national tour. Linda traveled to numerous state and national FOE conventions over the years, which allowed her to travel and see different parts of the country.
Outside of her Eagle life, she enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. She often shared her fond memories of growing up with her siblings, and loved telling stories of their mischievous adventures. In her last years, she made many new friends at her new home, Tranquillity Assisted Living in Frederick, where she naturally assumed the role of helping new residents feel welcome.
She is survived by her sister Bonnie (Sam) Jones of Frederick; niece Julie (Keith) Tucker; nephews Jason Stroud, Jeremy Jones, Eric Heffner, and Matthew (Tracy) Jones; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Roland Heffner, Jr., niece Anne (Heffner) Sullivan, and sister Margaret (Heffner) Stroud.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 North Maple Avenue, Brunswick.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Knoxville, with interment immediately following at the Brownsville Church cemetery.
