Lois Loraine Koehler Blodgett

February 17, 1936 — November 11, 2025

Lois Loraine Koehler Blodgett, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 89 years old.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Willis (“Will”) Kenneth Blodgett, who entered heaven on November 27, 1997; her parents, George and Doris Koehler; and her sister, Charlene Hennessy.

Lois and Will raised three children-Paul Blodgett, Pam Blodgett, and Karen Gammell-in a joyful, Christ-centered home overflowing with love, laughter, and hospitality. In time, they welcomed their daughter-in-law Karen Blodgett and son-in-law Ted Gammell with open arms. The true apples of Lois’ eye were her seven cherished grandchildren-Kyle Blodgett, Lauren Blodgett, Kevin Gammell, Timothy Gammell, Peter Gammell, Willis Gammell, and Hannah Gammell-who knew her affectionately as “Grandmom” and “Mooma.” Lois was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, and one on the way.

She will be dearly and deeply missed by all who loved her.

Lois was born in Washington, D.C., on February 17, 1936, and was baptized that same year at Christ Lutheran Church (Washington DC), where she later confirmed her faith in 1950. She graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in 1954, attended the University of Maryland on scholarship, and later earned an associate degree in Food Management from Montgomery College in 1983.

Lois devoted nearly 30 years to Montgomery County Public School Food Services, beginning as a cafeteria server so she could keep the same hours as her children. Through hard work, dedication, and steady leadership, she eventually became Head of the Montgomery County Schools Central Kitchen. She also served proudly as President of the Maryland State Food Service Association. Throughout her life, she remained active in church ministries-crafts, hospitality, Bible studies, and volunteering in the church office. Though she began life shy, Lois grew into a thoughtful, capable, and respected leader.

Lois and Will met as young adults through Christ Lutheran Church’s Walther League, forming friendships that lasted a lifetime. Their first date was on November 26, 1954, and they were united in marriage on July 14, 1956. Together, they enjoyed camping trips, lively pinochle games, bowling nights, and the cherished annual “Day After Christmas Party.” Lifelong Washington Redskins fans-faithful even in the lean years-they attended the 1984 Super Bowl with close friends and passed their team loyalty on to their children and grandchildren.

Lois and Will loved the beach and spent many happy years at their RV home at Port Delmarva in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, making memories filled with sunshine, rest, and community.

Above all, Lois treasured time with family and friends and shared her love with creativity. Her laughter, warmth, and generous spirit made every gathering better, and her joy in simple fellowship was one of her greatest gifts. In honoring Lois, the family invites you to share a hug with someone you love-a celebration of her journey home.
