Lois Bernice Padgett

Mrs. Lois Bernice Padgett, 90, of Woodsboro, died Saturday, February 24, 2007, at her home.
She was the wife of the late Elbert S. Padgett, who predeceased her in 1999.

Born in Lincoln, Calif., on December 18, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Edward H. Sanderson and Della B. Nelson.

She lived most of her adult life in Long Island, N.Y.

She was a secretary for a building company on Long Island for a number of years before becoming a journal clerk for the board of supervisors in Nassau County, N.Y., for 22 years.

Surviving her are children, Arthur E. Jenks Jr. and wife Barbara of Savannah, Ga., and Katharine Jenks Powell of Walkersville; three grandchildren, Christopher Jenks and wife Rorey of San Francisco, Calif., William D. Powell III of Walkersville and Rebecca J.P. Hoover and husband Matthew of Hagerstown; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Epps; and two granddaughters, Karen Jenks and Pamela Jenks McAteer.

She will also be remembered by special friends, Kathy and David Fitzwater and Chad and Irene Weddle.

Services: The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 2, at Glade United Church of Christ, Walkersville, with services to follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Rebecca J.P. Hoover, her granddaughter, officiating. Music will be provided by her grandson, William D. Powell III. Interment will be at Glade Cemetery, Walkersville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to REX Healthcare Foundation with funds designated to the KIDS CAN Program, 4420 Lake Boone Trail, Raleigh, NC 27607. This was a special charity of her granddaughter, Pamela Jenks McAteer, who predeceased her by one week. This is a support group for children whose parents have cancer. Through Pamela's illness and death from leukemia, her children have and will continue to receive support.
