Loren "Curly" Kreun

Loren W. "Curly" Kreun, 80, of Thurmont, passed from this life surrounded by his family, on Friday, November 18, 2022 at his son's home in Smithsburg.  He was the husband of 45 years to the late Judith "Judy" Helen Kreun.  Born on May 7, 1942, in Trosky, MN, he was the son of Lawrence William Kreun and Florence (Veld) Kreun.
 
Mr. Kreun enlisted in the United States Navy in 1960.  He served heroically for 20 years until his retirement in 1980.  Curly received his purple heart due to his actions onboard the USS Liberty, and served on many other vessels.
 
After retirement from the Navy, Mr. Kreun was a truck driver until his final retirement.  He was a member of the AMVETS Post #7, Thurmont, American Legion Post #168, Thurmont and USS Liberty Survivor's Association.
 
Curly loved Westerns, especially Gunsmoke, The Lone Ranger and John Wayne.
 
He is survived by three children: Thomas E. Kreun and wife Melissa of Smithsburg, Edward W. Kreun of Pflugerville, TX, and Darlene L. Miler and husband Christopher of Florida; six grandchildren: Ryan Kreun, Elizabeth Kreun, Ruthann Kreun, Corey Kreun, Joshua Miler and Benjamin Miler.
 
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Lois Fritz, June Fritz, Donavon Kreun and Carrol Kreun.
 
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 25, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont.  A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM in the chapel of the funeral home.  Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
 
Memorial donations may be made to Amvets Post 7, 26 Apples Church Road, Thurmont, Md.
 
Celebration of Life will be held after completion of Interment at Amvets Post 7 located at 26 Apples Church Road, Thurmont, Md.
