Louise Mary Peloquin

Louise M. Peloquin, 78, beloved sister, aunt, and friend died in Frederick, Maryland May 9, 2025. She was born in Miami, Florida on July 12, 1946 to Alphonse Edward and Jeannette LaPlante Peloquin and was the younger sister to Edward “Ed” (deceased) and Robert “Bob”.

Louise was independent and capable, which certainly helped her to get things done as the strong feminist she was. She traveled to California for college with a flower in her hair and chasing a boy, or so the story goes. Her loved ones knew she thrived on the mutual support from visits, calls and long conversations, which became increasingly important through her struggles with dementia. With friends and family across the globe, the question of ‘Where is Lou?’ was appropriately frequent. She shared her adventures thru her annual Christmas letters which were always epic and signed with a big L …ove … ouise. Louise returned her love of travel by generously keeping her home open in Silver Spring, MD and Marco Island, FL. It cannot be understated how much her many friends and family meant to her.

Louise continued to be a lifelong learner eventually earning her PhD from Walden University. She used her heart and knowledge in her public and mental health work including supporting mothers and babies with the March of Dimes, program evaluations with Macro International, SAMHSA to prevent bullying, and suicide prevention with the Veterans Administration. In particular, her anti-bullying program won an Emmy and the Childbirth Education Certification Program she developed remains the industry gold star standard. This work and her love of travel led her around the world to places such as Romania, Israel, and Mali. She enjoyed all her travels, but frequently told friends her most favorite spot was Thailand. Along the way her spirituality evolved with its foundation from her Roman Catholic upbringing to the Buddhist teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh, the spirit of angels, the magic of crystals, and the benefits of counseling. Some might say her love of shopping was spiritual as well.

She is survived by her brother Robert Peloquin, her sister-in-law Danielle Brault Peloquin (m. Edward), her nieces and nephews Amy Farrington (Brendan), Matthew (Tamara), Daniel; Marc, Michel (Marisa), Monique Peloquin Mueller (Kurt), and Martin; and great nieces and nephews Gregory, Spencer, Joseph, Hudson P. Mueller, Marielle P. Mueller, and step-nephew Cullen Farrington. Louise's good friend Margaret Ames and family will hold a ceremony May 22, 2025 at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, MD. There will be a Mass of Remembrance/Intention at Holy Infant Catholic Church, Durham, NC, where she was a member, on May 28, 2025 at 9am (live streaming at https://holyinfantchurch.org/sunday-mass-livestream and information at https://holyinfantchurch.org/mass-intentions-1). Later in the summer Louise’s family will bury her near her parents at Naples Memorial Gardens in Naples, FL with a celebration of life. Details will be on the obituary there when ready (https://www.dignitymemorial.com/funeral-homes/florida/naples/hodges-funeral-home-at-naples-memorial-gardens/7105). Memorial donations may be made to Planned Parenthood.
