Mabel Lee King Baugher

Mabel Lee King Baugher, 91, of Frederick, passed away on January 12, 2024, with her family by her side at her home.  She was born on July 13, 1932 in Weston, West Virginia, the daughter of the late James Roscoe and Lenora Virginia (Bancroft) King.  She was the second of 16 children.  She was the wife of the late Joseph (Jim) Samuel Baugher, Sr., who passed away in November, 2012.  They were married for 62 years.

Mabel and her husband were dairy farmers for 42 years in Dickerson, Maryland before they retired in 1992.  After their retirement from farming, they were both able to travel to many vacation spots through Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.  Mabel was a farmer's wife until 1992, later finding employment as a prep cook and cake/pie baker at Barbara Fritchie restaurant until her eventual retirement in 2010.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, cook and baker - especially her Coconut Cream Pie, which was famous for gatherings at the Baugher's family reunion and Thankgiving Day Hogs Butchering at their family farm.  She enjoyed word search puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.  She also won many Ribbons and Grand Champions at Great Frederick Fair and Rosehill Farm Museum for entering cakes.

She is survived by her 5 children: Michael L. Baugher (Teri) of Kenmore, NY, Charles A. Baugher (Emiko) of Boonsboro, MD and Japan, Diana J. Baugher Pearrell (Butch) of Boonsboro, MD, Donnie J. Baugher of Frederick, MD and Linda K. Baugher of Frederick, MD; 8 grandchildren: Rebecca A. Harty (Shane), Gregory A. Baugher, Jason M. Baugher, Jennifer M. Tressler (Aaron), Michael J. Pearrell (Melissa), James M. Pearrell, Miki Mabel Baugher (Yuri) and Cindi Alisa Baugher; 8 great-grandchildren: Kirsen L. Bowers (Matthew), Joe L. Baugher, Noah N. Tressler, Faith A. Harty, Lily G. Tressler, Peyton L. Baugher, Yuito Baugher and Maddox Joseph Pearrell as well as her great-great grandson, Glenn Michael Bowers.  She is also survived by 2 brothers, George King and Jerry King and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Baugher was preceded in death by a son, Joseph S. Baugher, Jr. in 1994, a grandson, Robert Matthew Pearrell in 1985, sisters: Shirley Beecroft, Wanda Baugher and Betty Funkhouser; brothers: Jimmy King, Ralph King, Robert King, Paul King, Roy King, Edwin King and Lester King.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 18 from 10 to 11 am at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 am.  Interment will be at Glade Cemetery, Walkersville.

Serving as pallbearers will be Donnie Baugher, Michael Baugher, Michael Pearrell, James Pearrell, Gregory Baugher and Jason Baugher.

The Baugher family would like to thank Frederick Health Hospice, especially Erik and Sarah, for the loving care during their mother's illness.
