Mabel L. Phoebus

Mrs. Mabel L. Phoebus, 80 of Frederick, MD died Friday, December 29, 2006 at the home of her son. She was the wife of the late Roger M. Phebus who died in 1996 and her first husband the late Charles R. Smith, Sr. who died in 1952.

Born November 9, 1926 in Frederick, Md she was the daughter of Ernest W., Sr. and Frances Mae Ford Elsrode.

Mrs. Phebus was of Methodist faith. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 347, Frederick and also a member of Academy of Friendship, in the Moose. She loved spending time with her family, helping others, cooking, and puzzles. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.

Surviving are five children, three sons Gary W. Smith, Sr and wife Gayla, Gordon W. Smith and wife Sandra of Frederick, Charles R. Smith, Jr. and wife Sharon of Monrovia, two daughters Annie Haws and husband George, Diana Mock and husband Henry, Jr. of PA, a step-daughter Nancy Adkins and husband Bill of Frederick, Fifteen grandchildren (including special grandchildren Gary, Jr. and wife Stacey, Wesley and John, Jr.), twenty two grandchildren (including two special Shawn A. and Bobbi-Jo Smith), one great great grandson Jordan, a brother Harry F. Elsrode of Reno, NV, Three sisters Annie Kolb of Creagerstown, Helen Heffner and Mary Rea of Frederick. Also a number of nieces and nephews.

She will be remembered by her special friend Fred Watts.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Grace V. Fowler, a brother Ernest W. Elsrode, and a sister Evelyn Baker.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Tuesday, January 2, from 2 -4 and 7 - 9 p.m.,

Services: Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 3, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Tony Hernandez officiating.
