Mrs. Mae Elizabeth Shafer went home to be with the Lord on Monday November 3, 2025.
She was married to the late Ezra T. Shafer for 48 years, who passed away June 7, 2005.
Born in Frederick County on Nov, 2, 1930 to the late Thomas E. Harding and Emma Virginia Ormes Harding.
At the age of three months, her mother passed away, and she was raised by her father and stepmother, Effie LaRue Harding.
She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, most of her years at Trinity United Methodist Church.
She attended local schools and worked for Frederick Tailoring and Sagner Clothing Factory for 26 years. After Sagner closed, she worked for H. L. Hartz Clothing Company for 26 ½ years, retiring in 2003. She and her husband traveled to many places with their favorite travelling companions, Jimmy and Connie Shafer.
In 1978, she and three friends started the Sagner Reunion. She remained active with the reunion until 2014.
She is survived by her son Bernard E. Wills and his wife Darlene of Millsboro, DE; her grandsons, Dayne and Cale Wills of Centreville, VA and her nephews Matthew and Jarred McCoy of Falling Waters, WV and Timothy and Jeffrey Harding; sister-in-law Rebecca Harding; a special granddaughter Tarra Efkarpidis and her husband Nick of Ridgefield, CT; two very dear great-granddaughters Dina and Zoe Efkarpidis; a very special niece Michelle Geisbert; several nieces and nephews who were very dear to her and among the many friends very close to her, were James and Connie Shafer, Fred and Vonnie Parker, Karen Leatherman, Patsy Hall and nieces Joyce Hanshue and Brenda Harding and the late Peggy and Earl Bere.
The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m on Tuesday November 11, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, at 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD.
A celebration of Mae’s life journey will take place following the visitation at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
