Margaret Kettells

Mrs. Margaret Jane Kettells, 93, of Frederick, MD died March 27, 2014 at Somerford House in Frederick.  She was the beloved wife of Durward W. Kettells for 73 years.  Mr. Kettells preceded Margaret in death on May 5, 2011. Mrs. Kettells was born June 13, 1920 in Walkersville, MD, the youngest of six children born to the late Hanson and Dulcie Sunday Shoemaker.  She graduated from Walkersville High School in 1937.  Afterwards she worked for the Walkersville Sewing Factory until her marriage on August 18, 1939.   She was a homemaker until she began to work for, and later own, Bell’s Millinery Store in downtown Frederick.  She then worked as a saleslady and buyer for Parsons Company until it closed. Mrs. Kettells was President of the Cedarettes and active with her husband’s Masonic Lodges.  She was a member of the Red Hatters and the Rainbow Belles as well as an Honorary Member of the Elks Lodge #684, the American Legion Auxiliary Post #11 and the local chapter of the AARP.  She grew up singing in the choir and playing the piano in the old United Brethren Church in Walkersville where she was also married.  Mr. and Mrs. Kettells moved to Frederick in 1984 where they became members of the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Margaret Kettells is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Hawkins of Beltsville and Jean Glover and husband Gregory of Frederick; four grandchildren, Lisa Eidson and husband Robert of Columbia, Derek Hawkins and wife Aimee of Edgewater, Jonathan Glover and wife Meghan, and Katherine Huy and husband Steven of Frederick; five great-grandchildren, Sophia and Dustin Eidson of Columbia, Lillian and Colton Hawkins of Edgewater and Rowan Huy of Frederick; and numerous other family and friends. Family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702 from 7-9 PM on Monday, March 31, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at the Funeral Home with her former pastor, Reverend Burnis Barrett, and current pastor Reverend Dr. Larry Eubanks officiating.  Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
