Margaret Ann Lawson

February 7, 1933 — August 5, 2025

Chambersburg

Margaret Ann "Peggy" Baughman Lawson, 92, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Providence Place of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

She was born February 7, 1933 in Travilah, Maryland to the late Perl Carl and Marian Frye Baughman. She was a graduate of Poolesville High School Class of 1951.

In 1952, Peggy married Harry Eugene (Gene) Lawson. They were married for 67 years, until his passing in 2019. She was a member of the Greencastle United Methodist Church. Gene was the Methodist minister, and she was the pianist. They enjoyed singing duets and singing in the choir. They also hosted several popular Gospel groups such as The Oak Ridge Boys, The Blue Ridge Quartet, and The Singing Nitz Family, to name a few.

She worked as a secretary at the Rockville Court House, Army Map Service, Bechtel Corporation and Fairchild Hiller. Then, she chose to work on the family farms, where she milked over 100 cows and operated the farm equipment and trucks right along beside the men. Once retired, she went back to work at Panera Bread of Hagerstown, where she made many friends. Peggy then worked at the Olive Garden in Hagerstown.

She liked to garden, make crafts, and go to yard sales. Peggy did a lot of volunteer work for churches and organizations like the Two Top Ruritan Club and Rose Hill Manor. She played the organ and piano at churches, served as Choir director and was a Sunday School teacher. She was the organist at the Montgomery County Singing Convention for years. She was an outgoing and entertaining “people person” and liked to be around people and have fun.

She will be missed by a son, Gabriel E. Lawson, of Monrovia, Maryland; former daughter-in-law, Rosemarie K. Lawson, of Frederick; three grandchildren, Ami Curtis, Angela Redding, Nathan Lawson; six great-grandchildren, Collin Curtis, Chelsea Willoughby, Ethan Redding, Adelynn Lawson, Haylee Lawson, and Matthew Pfaff; six great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed a great friendship with her neighbor and amazing friend Sandy Stoner.

In November of 2022, Peggy was preceded in death by her son, Carl Thomas Lawson. She is also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jessica Lawson Pfaff; great-grandchild, Alex Pfaff; brother, Andrew Baughman; three sisters, Clara Mae (Cotton) Williams, Kirke (Nancy) Schroor, and Virginia Mae Baughman.
