Margaret (Mardee) Sally Shaw

Margaret (Mardee) Sally Shaw, 94, of Frederick MD passed away peacefully on October 1, 2023 at Somerford Assisted Living in Frederick.  She had just celebrated her 94^th birthday on September 27 with her children and grandchildren.  She was born in Eveleth, Minnesota to Elmer Phillip Arnold and Doris Sally Arnold. Mardee was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and their young daughter, Sally Jane.

In 1949 Mardee joined her husband, Clarence “Grant” Shaw in northern VA where he was stationed in the United States Army.  Later, they moved to Silver Spring, MD and then to Derwood, MD.  The couple chose Frederick, MD as their retirement location in order to be close to family and friends.

Mardee lived in Frankfurt and Bonn, Germany for a few years with her husband and children.  She loved traveling through Europe sightseeing, tasting the local fare and being introduced to new cultures.  She loved watching her children’s sports, helping in the schools, and working in the Head Start program as a volunteer.  She was also very active in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Laytonsville.

For twenty years, Mardee owned and operated Pine & Patches, a unique country home accessories store in Laytonsville, where she loved meeting people and helping them accessorize their home.

Mardee was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother as well as a dog lover.  She was a wonderful cook and known for her entertaining skills, which included hosting the “Shaw Family Christmas Celebration” every year until 2018.

Mardee is survived by her four children, Cynthia White, and husband Paul White of Wilmington DE; Richard Shaw, and wife Carol Shoemaker of Laytonsville, MD; David Shaw of Englewood, FL; and, Jamie Shaw and wife Pam Vesper of Woodsboro, MD. 

In addition, Mardee had eight grandchildren:  Mark White of Parsippany, NJ; Mary Beth Weaber (Jeremy) of Elkton MD; Erinn Shaw of Laytonsville MD; Brett Shaw of Fairfield PA; Tyler Shaw (Maddie) of Thurmont MD; Hayden Shaw of Woodsboro MD; Zach Brown (Bobbi) of Boonsboro, MD; and Taylor Brown of Frederick MD.  She was also blessed with five wonderful great- grandchildren: Sally Weaber, Molly Weaber, Katy Weaber, Logan Brown and Lenora Shaw.

Interment services will be held immediately following at Mount Olivet Cemetery located at 515 S Market St, Frederick, MD 21701.  This service is reserved for family members only.  Thank you for your understanding.
