Marianne Angela Russell Hosea, born on April 5, 1933, in England to Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Williams, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at Silverado Memory Care Community in Frederick, MD. She leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories and accomplishments.

In her youth, Marianne married Peter Malcolm Hosea, a young RAF officer, and together they embarked on a life filled with adventure, including three tours in Singapore. Their eldest daughter, Carolanne, accompanied them, followed later by their second daughter, Joanne. Marianne embraced her role as a devoted wife and mother, supporting Peter and nurturing her two girls with love and dedication. Marianne was widowed with the sudden loss of Peter in 1980.

In her later years, Marianne found love again and remarried Dr Stephan Mergenhagen, with whom she shared over 30 years of many joyful moments.

Marianne’s professional journey began as a secretary at Tanglin Trust Preparatory School in Singapore during the early 1960s. She then served as a Personal Assistant at Ciro’s of London in the late 1960s to early 1970s. Her career culminated in a significant role as a Personnel Officer at the British Embassy in Washington, D.C., from the late 1970s until her retirement. Her hard work and commitment to her role at the British Embassy was recognized when she was awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by Her Majesty the Queen, a testament to her exemplary service.

Marianne is survived by her daughter, Carolanne "Carol" Simpson and her husband, Mike. Also cherishing her memory are her grandchildren, Peter John Simpson and John Michael Simpson, Jr., along with her great-grandson, Logan Simpson. She is further survived by her stepdaughter, Paula DeWitt, and her husband, Paul, as well as her step-granddaughter, Marie DeWitt, and stepdaughter, Susan “Sue” Mergenhagen.
