Listen to Obituary

Marion V. Lawrence, 78, of Walkersville, Maryland, passed from this life on Sunday, July 5, 2026 at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center in Frederick, MD. He was the husband of Michiyo Lawrence for 23 years.

Born on September 9, 1947, in Creagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Donald Lawrence and Maria Ruby (Bennett) Lawrence.

Marion proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, dedicating over 30 years to his military career before retiring at the rank of Major. His extensive service stationed him around the world, with notable assignments in the Philippines and Japan. It was during a tour in Japan that he met his first wife, Masumi Lawrence. Together, they traveled extensively alongside his military career and raised their two sons, Erich and Scott, eventually settling back in Maryland where they lived together for many years, and where Marion remained throughout his retirement to be close to his roots and the family he cherished. Following Masumi's passing, he later met and married Michiyo, with whom he shared the rest of his life.

Beyond his military service, Marion was an avid DIYer and a highly skilled, passionate woodworker. He poured his heart into his craft, creating everything from hand-turned bowls to beautiful furniture, and took justifiable pride in gifting his handmade treasures to others. He was a firm believer in self-reliance and always championed the importance of learning to do things yourself-a powerful lesson in independence and capability that his family will always carry with them. Above all, Marion was a devoted family man who loved his grandchildren immensely; Winifred and Theodore were a central and vibrant part of his life.

In addition to his wife, Michiyo, he is survived by his sons, Erich Lawrence and Scott Lawrence; his beloved grandchildren, Winifred and Theodore; and his siblings, Sharon Norton, Bonnie Jeffcoats, and Mark Lawrence.

Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
