Mark Andrew Resch, of Thurmont MD, only child of Donald G. Resch and Dawn Skillman passed peacefully on Wednesday evening, December 17, 2025, at Frederick Health Hospice after a brief but fierce battle with cancer.
Born November 27, 1973, in Pennsylvania, he graduated from Northern High School in Dillsburg PA and received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Western Maryland College, where he met his wife, Erika Roskowinski Resch, they were married on September 23, 2000.
Originally residing in Westminster, he was a member of the Door to Virtue Lodge #46, AF and AM. Later he moved to Thurmont MD and became a devoted father to his two children. Mark would soon become a full-time volunteer and was extremely active with local Scouting Units. He was the Committee Chair for Cub Pack 270 and founding member and Committee Chair for Troop 77. Among other endeavors he was a Troop Merit Badge Counselor, Cub Roundtable Commissioner and District Unit Commissioner for the Frederick District, had served as a Day Camp and University of Scouting Instructor. He previously served as the Cubmaster of Pack 270, Membership Chair for Troop 270 and was the Day Camp Program Coordinator for the last two years. He was also a recipient of the District Award of Merit for the Franscis Scott Key District, National Capital Area Council. He was also currently serving as the Chaplain of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 168 in Thurmont.
He had a talent for building people up to do their best and go outside their comfort zones. He was a favorite MC at Cub Scout Pinewood Derbies and was famous for his dad jokes at scouting events. He enjoyed making art and frequently designed shirts, patches, promise coins and yard signs for organizations he was involved in. He enjoyed Stars Wars and classic murder mysteries like Sherlock Holmes or Poirot.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children, Logan Pierce and Dorian Gwenyth Resch.
Viewing for family will be at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 104 E Main St., Thurmont, MD on Tuesday December 23 from 10 to 11 am. All others are welcome from 11 am to 2 pm, with a memorial service at 2 pm. All are welcome to a Celebration of Life on January 3, 2026, at 1pm at the Thurmont American Legion Post 168, 8 Park Lane, Thurmont MD.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to be made to Troop 77 or Cub Pack 270, 112 Bosc Court, Thurmont MD, 21788.
