Martha Jean "Jeannie" (Powell) Stouffer

Martha Jean “Jeannie” (Powell) Stouffer, 87, of Boonsboro, MD, peacefully went to be with our Lord on October 8, 2022 at Fahrney-Keedy Home in Boonsboro. 

Born on May 21, 1935, in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of Elmer James Powell and Margaret Doretha (Hatfield) Powell of Hagerstown, MD. 

Jeannie graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1953 where she was in the majorettes.  Her work included Marva Theater, Wonderbread, Darling Shop, Ramada Inn, and Holiday Inn.   

She was dedicated to her family and had a strong faith. She was a member of Mt. Lena United Methodist Church where she did mission trips (including Puerto Rico), sang on the church choir, and was a Girl Scout troop leader. She enjoyed traveling to appreciate God’s handiwork throughout our American West, but the family trips to the beach were her favorites.  Jeannie enjoyed quilting, she was a member of the Funkstown Homemakers, and she loved her pet birds.  She and her husband shared the hobby of collecting Vaseline glass and she was a member of the Vaseline Glass Club Inc.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Dale N. Stouffer.  She is also survived by loving family: daughter Suzanne Sullivan and her husband Matthew Sullivan of Boonsboro, MD; daughter Jamie Mertz and her husband James Mertz of Boonsboro, MD; son Scott Stouffer and his wife Susan Cox Stouffer of Beaver Creek, OH; grandchildren Zandra Sullivan, Bethany Mertz, Christopher Mertz, Josiah Stouffer, and Micah Stouffer; also, many devoted family and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by sister Laurella Viola Daugherty, brother Max Denton Powell, and brother Melvin Wayne Powell.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 14 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, Boonsboro, MD.  Services will be held at Mt. Lena United Methodist Church Saturday, October 15, at 11:00 am. The Rev. Ron Kurtz will officiate.
