Mary E. Fleming

Mary E.Fleming, 98, of Mount Airy, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at Dove Hospice House in Westminster, MD

Born on June 26, 1924, in Frederick County, MD.  She was the daughter of  the late William Welsh and Elsie  (Lowman) Welsh.  As a child she lived in Poplar Springs, MD. As a teenager her family moved to Mt. Airy, where she lived the rest of her life.

She was the wife of Donald E. Fleming, who preceded her in death in 2009.  They were married 59 years.

Mary graduated from Mt. Airy High School in 1942.  She worked for a local eye doctor and then F & M Bank until her first child was born.  The rest of her career she was a homemaker.  

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Mary enjoyed planting and growing flowers.  She was a life long member of Ridgeville-Howard Chapel Methodist Church.  

Mary is survived by her daughter, Donna  Ecker and son, Thomas Fleming and his wife Peggy Fleming; grandchildren, Christopher (Brennan) Ecker, Erin (Jason) Lawrence, Tricia (Greg) Winchester and Donnie (Tiffany) Fleming; great-grandchildren, Casey and Olivia Ecker, Abby and Hannah Lawrence, Caitlin Fleming and Keegan Winchester; sister-in-law, Arta Hawkins.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings Elbert, Roland, Walter and Lawrence Welsh and son-in-law Larry Ecker.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, MD. 21771.

A celebration of Mary's life  will take place at 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at the funeral home.  Rev. Tim May will officiate.  Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in  Mount Airy, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Pine Grove cemetery.
