Mason P. Kearns

With the heaviest of hearts, we announce that our dear Mason Kearns was taken from us far too soon on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the age of 13. Mason lived his life with a bold and unstoppable energy, and he moved through the world with an infectious optimism that lifted everyone around him. He had a rare gift for bringing light to the darkest of circumstances, meeting every challenge with a quick smile, a forgiving heart, and relentless positivity.

An avid skateboarder, Mason was a fixture at the local skatepark. He reveled in teaching others the tricks he had just mastered and was determined to land his next one, no matter how many times he fell. He welcomed an audience even for his falls, which he would meet with a laugh before dusting himself off to try again. This was how he approached life: with fearless joy and a spirit that could not be knocked down.

His boldness was balanced by a gentle heart. He made friends everywhere he went, never passing a dog on the street without stopping for a pet and a conversation with its owner. But of all his friends, none was closer than his older brother, Clay. From Mason's first breath to his last, they were inseparable, sharing a bond that was a world unto itself.

Mason is survived by his brother Clay Kearns; his parents Erica Ann Kearns (Mt. Airy) and Chip Kearns (Thurmont, MD); grandparents Michael and Debra Eggleston (Mt. Airy, MD), George Earl Kearns II (Hagerstown, MD) and Bonnie Errico (Reisterstown, MD); great-grandparents Mary (Sue) Vigue and Joyce Eggleston. Aunts and uncles include Terri Kellogg (Eric), Kristina Brady (Jason), Allison Eggleston (Audra); and great-aunts and uncles Donald Barnes (Laurie), Rebeca Deysher (William), Cheryl Gielow (Tim), Pam Wilhide (Donny), Debby Hawkins (Wes), and Bob Hewitt; and cousins Logan and Connor Brady, Owen and Gage Eggleston, Hannah and Jacob Kellogg, Katie and Anna Barnes, Maggie Deysher, Leo Jacobson, Kim Jacobson (Aaron), Adam Hawkins (Jennifer), Leo Gielow, and Brandon and Devon Hawkins.

On behalf of our entire family, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the community that has surrounded us with support, love, and generosity. To the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company, Mount Airy Police Department, The Disaster Relief Fund, and the countless small businesses and community members – Thank you for helping us send Mason home in love and comfort.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 13th from 5-8pm at the Stauffer Funeral Home located at 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd, Mount Airy, MD. Services will be held Thursday, August 14th at 2pm at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 403 South Main Street, Mount Airy, MD. A private burial for the family will follow the service; however, all are welcome to attend the Celebration of Mason’s life being held from 3-7 at the MAVFC Reception Hall, located at 1008 Twin Arch Road, Mount Airy, MD.
