Matthew Thomas
McCutcheon
January 4, 1980 – April 30, 2026
Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick
1:00 - 4:00 pm (Eastern time)
Matthew Thomas McCutcheon was born January 4, 1980, in Silver Spring, Maryland, but he would tell you he truly hailed from the Steel City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he spent his formative years and developed a lifelong love for the city he proudly called his own.
Matthew graduated from Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville, Pennsylvania, and went on to earn a degree in Communications from the University of Pittsburgh. He returned to Maryland to begin his career in radio, where many came to know and love him as Matt "Steel." His unmistakable voice filled the airwaves on several local Maryland radio stations, bringing humor, energy, and connection to listeners each day. Later, he carried his creativity and gift for storytelling into marketing, where his wit and talent for words continued to leave an impression.
Matthew passed away on April 30, 2026, at the age of 46 following a courageous battle with colorectal cancer.
Above all else, Matthew was a devoted father. His daughter, Layla, was the light of his life and his greatest pride. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unforgettable memories that will live on through her.
He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Rose Wienhoff; his siblings, Bernie and Dan McCutcheon; his grandfather, Glenn Wienhoff; his aunt, Linda Crilly (Jeff); his uncles, Bill (Jenny) and Carl (Virginia) Wienhoff; and many cherished cousins. His life remained deeply connected to his former wife, Diana Anthony, the mother of his daughter, as well as countless close friends from Pittsburgh and Maryland whose lives were forever touched by his presence and will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Rosalie Wienhoff.
Matthew will be remembered for his quick humor, warm heart, unmistakable voice, and the fierce love he carried for those closest to him. Though his time here was far too short, the laughter he shared, the stories he told, and the love he gave will continue to echo in the lives of all who knew him.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Mark Goldstein, MD; Dr. Shreya Desai, MD; Francesca Van Sant, CRNP; and the nurses and staff of the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders; Dr. Matthew Skancke, MD, and the staff of Metro Colon and Rectal Surgery; the oncology nurses of Frederick Heal|th Hospital; Frederick Health Hospice; Allison Smith, CRNP, of Frederick Primary Care; and his employer, A2LA WorkPlace Training, for their compassion, care, and unwavering support throughout Matthew's cancer journey.
In Matthew's honor, he would encourage everyone to receive their screening colonoscopy by age 40 and earlier if experiencing any symptoms of colorectal cancer.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 16, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. A microphone will be available for those wishing to share their stories of Matthew.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to the Layla McCutcheon Education Fund
