Matthew Wayne Plasket

September 19, 1955 - December 6, 2024, 69 years old

Matt died peacefully in his sleep, his wife holding his hand, concluding his 15+ year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Survived by his wife of 33 years, Katherine, and sons Carlton of Frederick MD, Edward of Alexandria VA and William of Herndon VA.

He is also survived by brother Carl of Kennesaw GA, his wife Kelly and their sons Alex with wife Ashley of Kennesaw GA and Max of Smyrna GA.

Predeceasing him are his mother and father, Wayne and Lourene Plasket of Salem NJ, brother, Mark Miller Plasket of Virginia Beach VA, and best friend Keith Lippincott of Woodstock NJ.

Matt graduated from Salem High School, Salem NJ in 1973, then attended Keystone Junior College near Scranton PA from 1973-1975 He transferred to Roanoke College in Salem VA graduating with a BS in Chemistry in 1978.

Matt and his family were members of the New Market United Methodist Church, in New Market Maryland for many years.

Matt met Katherine in the Bechtel Office in Pottstown PA, in the summer of 1989 where they briefly dated during her summer work assignment there during graduate school. By February of 1990 they were engaged and Katherine returned to Pottstown in September, 3 months before their wedding in November 1991. Their first date was after a golf game with work colleagues.

After living as a married couple in Pottstown for a year the Bechtel Pottstown office closed and they transferred to the Bechtel office in Rockville MD. They sold their house, after much renovation, and moved to Frederick MD. Home base has been Frederick ever since with brief episodes in Pleasanton CA (2003-2004) and Plain City UT (2021-2022).

Matt worked at Mannington Mills outside Salem NJ as a Quality Assurance Inspector, and First Investors of Burlington NJ as an investment broker. Matt worked for Bechtel until 1995, after which he worked for CTA which was bought by Lockheed Martin. Matt retired from Lockheed Martin in 2016.

In addition to enjoying golf, Matt loved to fly. He earned his pilot’s license in 1990, and he and Katherine took many trips in the mid-Atlantic to see friends or simply to have a meal at the airport diner in another town. After flying became too difficult and expensive with the family, Matt turned his attention to cars, specifically Porsches. On Katherine’s first visit to Matt’s house in Pottstown, he showed her the 1976 gold 911 Targa, which was to take the next 30 years to fully restore. During that time, he also owned a 1973 Porsche 914 Targa. He and his friends spent many weekends tinkering with those cars.

They both enjoyed the band Chicago, Matt the early works and Katherine the later due to their age difference of 10 years. There were many family camping trips with the crowd in Lake George NY.

In addition to flying, cars and common music interests, Matt loved watching and coaching basketball and was coach to several youth Clover Hill basketball teams over the years. The March Madness basketball tournament was always must see TV in the Plasket household.
