Mount Airy

After a long, painful battle with cancer, Melodie Sampselle, known to her friends and family as Mindy, succumbed to her illness and passed away on December 22 at the Dove House Hospice in Westminster, MD.

Mindy was born on September 18, 1961, the youngest child of Joan and William Sampselle, both deceased, along with her oldest sister, Joy (Kern). Also deceased was her beloved son John, who died suddenly in May, 2020, during COVID. With her passing, Mindy leaves behind two sisters-- Bonnie Meeks [spouse George Meeks) and Alane Haynes (spouse Kerry Haynes)--and her brother David Sampselle (spouse Kathy Sampselle). Also mourning her death are her uncle, Lynn Cobb, and her aunt, Connie Poovey Cobb; as well as nephews Dirk Sampselle, and Ben Golliday; and nieces Emily Meeks, Cara Heinen, and Sara Iocino.

Mindy’s cousins--Jon Cobb,Gary Davey, Patricia Davey Duncan, Carol Jung, and Chris Cobb Skowronsky--also mourn her demise.

During Mindy’s lifetime, the family lived in Maryland, in the towns where Reverend Sampselle preached: Ward’s Chapel, Havre de Grace, Sykesville, New Windsor, Cumberland, and Brunswick. After her high school graduation, Mindy was employed in Federick by the Salvation Army, and later at the Northampton Nursing facility, before her health deteriorated.

She will always be remembered for her vibrant personality, her sensitive nature, her eagerness to please no matter how painful her own circumstances, and her deep devotion to her son John.

A memorial service and the burial inurnment will be held in the summer of 2026, the date to be announced nearer that time. We welcome any friends or family who would like to attend and share memories. Please contact one of her siblings if you have an interest, and one of us will coordinate with you.
