Melvin Todd Smith

Melvin “Todd” Smith, 62, of Jefferson, MD died on November 16, 2025 in Charles Town, WV. 

Born in Charles Town, WV on April 26, 1963, he was a son of Nancy Smith of Jefferson, MD and the late Millard Samuel Smith Jr. 

He owned and operated MTS Trucking in Jefferson, MD, which served locations throughout Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1981. 

Todd was very active in the community of Jefferson and surrounding areas, including attending the annual Smith Family reunion in Petersville every year. Todd was well known as a man with a big heart: he never met a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. In his 17 years of being clean, he often shared his personal stories, mingled with humor and hard-earned life lessons, to others in recovery at Mountain Manor and other meetings.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by three nieces: Shannon and Danielle Smith of Baltimore, MD and Jessica Smith of Vail, CO; sister-in-law Karen Smith Racicot and her husband Bob Racicot, of Frederick, MD. He was predeceased by his brother, Millard Samuel “Sam” Smith III. 

The family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 9:00PM on Tuesday, December 2 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 1100 N Maple Ave, Brunswick, MD. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, December 3 at Grace Episcopal Church, 114 E A St, Brunswick, MD. Reverend Edie Holden will officiate. 

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to Grace Episcopal Church or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
