Merhle F. Young, 93, of Thurmont, Maryland, went home to the Lord, on Tuesday October 6th, at Glade Valley Autumn Lake in Walkersville MD.
He was born on January 14, 1933, in Middletown, MD, he was the son of late Charles E. Young and Alma E. (Bussard) Young. He was the husband of the late Constance Young who died in 2015.
Merhle started out as a farmhand in the early years. He eventually found work as a heavy equipment operator and eventually started his own excavating business for a few years. He then went on to work for other companies as an operator. He was someone that could fix or repair anything. He built two of his homes with help from his brothers. He was a hard worker. He loved to buy old cars and fix them up and drive them in parades. He played music with his father and brothers in the early years and he was one of the co-founders of "The Carroll County Ramblers" as their bass player. In the early 1970's he started his own band called "The Country Five". He then went on to playing gospel music with "The Gospel Travelers".
He is survived by sons, Rick E.Young (wife-Elinor) and Dale A. Young (wife-Kip); grandchildren Andrew Young (Karin), Kristin Hoy (Tony), Dale, Jr, and Richard Young; great-grandchildren Evan, Ella, Hannah, Hailey, Emma, Sophia, Elijah and Grayson and his sister Dorothy Bailey.
In addition to his wife and parents, Merhle was preceded in death by his sisters Thelma Moore and Betty Kaufmann and his brothers Meredith, Grayson, Edwin, Harold, Richard, Paul and Marion Young.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Autumn Lake at Glade Valley in Walkersville for their compassionate care.
He was a member of Ambassador Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 10am to 11am on Monday October 12th, 2026, at Stauffer Funeral Home, located at 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont, MD 21788.
He will be laid to rest beside his wife Constance at Resthaven Memorial Gardens following the visitation, with Pastor Tom Fry officiating.
In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Merhle's name to Alzheimer's Association , 108 Byte Drive, Suite 103, Frederick, MD 21702.
