Michael Byrnes, 63, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
Born on August 29, 1962, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Richard Charles and Alice Patricia (Rowe) Byrnes.
A proud graduate of Frederick High School, Michael went on to own and operate a landscape business for an impressive 35 years. Through his work, he expressed not only his talent but also his genuine appreciation for the people around him. "I just want people to know how much I appreciate them and the customers I had that were so good to me. I just enjoyed being around the people who enjoyed the work I was doing," he would often say. His business was more than a livelihood; it was a way for him to connect with others and bring beauty to the world around him. Michael had a deep love for golf, often spending quality time playing on local courses, with a special fondness for Clustered Spires, where he fostered many friendships over shared rounds and sunlit afternoons. This pastime reflected his love of camaraderie and the outdoors traits that he carried through life. He also played on numerous softball teams for many years and played in many regional and national softball championships. He was known for his comedic antics on the field and exceptional talents. He always recalled his '69 Mets with much fondness which contributed to his love of the game. He enjoyed the Ultimate Frisbee gatherings in Baker Park for many years also. Michael was very proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed the music and traditions and everything with Ireland.
Family was always the most important part of Michael's life. He is survived by his brothers Leo Byrnes and wife Karen of Walkersville, Maryland; Jerry Byrnes and wife Terry of Woodsboro, Maryland; and Jack Byrnes with his partner Greg Wadsworth of Kenmore, New York. His sister Audrey Mattax and husband Doug of Frederick, Maryland. Michael’s longtime girlfriend, Kristen Maruskin, stood by his side through many seasons of his life and he loved and adored her. He is additionally remembered fondly by his nieces Stacy and husband Chris and Stephanie and husband Ryan; nephews Sam and his wife Amanda, Shane and Luke; as well as numerous cousins from the Philadelphia area and the Marsukin family, whom Michael held dear. He is remembered by his Goddaughters Annemarie Koogle and Anna-Claire Burdette who he loved to see. He will be missed by so many, especially Ronnie Gartrell, Tim Koogle and Mike Tansey. Michael was an avid dog lover and his canine companions, Duffy and Murphy the black labs, and Lucy, a Shih Tzu, and the late Sasha, also brought joy to his days.
He was preceded in death by his sister Joanie Byrnes.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A. (Fred), 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD.
A celebration of Michael's life journey will take place at 11:00 am on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, Frederick.
Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, MD.
