Michael Lee Roelkey, Sr.

Michael Lee Roelkey, Sr, 62, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.

Born on November 10, 1961, in Charles Town, West Virginia, he was the son of Elinore Jane (Grimes) Roelkey and the late Robert Wesley Roelkey, Sr. 

He was a 1979 graduate of Boonsboro High School. Mike went on to serve with the US Army from 1979-1983 in Germany. He was employed by Covanta Energy for 29 years. 

In addition to his mother, Ellie, Mike will be missed by his wife, Rhonda; daughters, Brittany "Britt" Foster and Amanda Lee Surrette and husband, Ed; brother, Timothy Roelkey; sisters, Jane Hammond and husband, Dennis, Trisha Benner and husband, Darryl "Breeze" Benner; grandchildren, Cole, Baylee, Korbyn, and Ava Jean; nieces and nephews, Wayne, Dylan and his wife, Cecelia, Brittany Hammond and husband, Zachary Macomber, Olivia Roelkey, and Regan Roelkey; and great-niece, Adeline Macomber.

Mike was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Roelkey, Jr. and Warren Roelkey; and sisters, Sandra Roelkey and Lisa Roelkey.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. 

A celebration of Michael's life journey will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at the funeral home. Pastor Guy Nesbitt will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies, with military honors, will be held at Brownsville Heights Cemetery in Knoxville, MD.
