Michael Lloyd Spaur

Michael Lloyd Spaur, 74, of Walkersville, MD, peacefully passed after a courageous battle with cancer, on September 13, 2023.  Mike was born on December 10, 1948, in Washington, D.C.  He was the son of Leonard A. Spaur and Jean Spaur Riddle.  

Mike was a graduate of Murray State University.  He served in the United States Coast Guard where he was deployed to the Arctic Circle.  He was honorably discharged in 1971.  

After his service, he was employed with the Frederick News-Post where he authored the weekly column  “What’s in a name?”.  Then later in his career he freelanced.  Mike’s creativity and passion for storytelling, and sense of humor shone through his career.  

He leaves behind his loving mother, Jean Spaur Riddle, his two sisters, Donna MacGregor (David), and Cathy Spaur (Phillip).  He is also survived by his twelve nieces and nephews.  

He is preceded in death by his father, Leonard Spaur; stepfather, James Riddle and his sister, Pattie Phillips.  

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM, on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Stauffer Funeral Home-Frederick, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.  Services will follow at 12:00 noon.  Rev. Tim May will officiate.  Interment will be private.
