Michael James "Mike" Trumbull passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was 77 years old.
Born on July 15, 1948, in Washington, D.C., Mike lived a life defined by service and dedication.
Mike served honorably as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. In February 1968, he was wounded in combat in the city of Hue, Vietnam and received several commendations for his bravery, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and the most notable, the Purple Heart. These honors reflect his courage and steadfast commitment to his fellow Marines and country.
After his military service, Mike pursued a meaningful career at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where he worked closely with doctors from around the world. He was responsible for ensuring the doctors had everything they needed to pursue and complete their important research in the medical field.
Mike's greatest joy came from his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Tracey; daughter, Kelsie Anderson and her husband, Brett; son, Tyler Trumbull and his partner, Anna; son, Chris Mutimer and his wife, Kamila; grandchildren, Bryce Anderson, Addison Trumbull, and Lawson Mutimer; sisters, Daryl Massey and her husband, Dennis, and Patti Weisenborne and her husband, Steve. He also leaves behind many dear family members including nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many other friends who will remember him with deep affection.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Helen Trumbull.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at 11 a.m. on September 20, 2025, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, MD 21713.
A reception will be held at the funeral home to reflect upon memories of Mike after the service.
The family invites all who attend to dress business casual. Mike would want you to be comfortable.
Mike's legacy of service-to country, science, and loved ones-will be cherished by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) to honor Mike.
Family will gather at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026 at Arlington National Cemetery for inurnment with military honors.
