Mildred Elizabeth Shoemaker, 108, died peacefully in her sleep on February 3, 2026. Born on December 7, 1917 on Patrick Street in Frederick, MD, she was the youngest daughter of parents Claude Grafton Shoemaker and Ruth Cordelia Riddlemoser. She had a loving family to include her older brother Richard Lee Shoemaker and her older sister Evelynn Louise Shoemaker. She was preceded in death by her only son, Richard Leon Kelley. Mildred is survived by her daughter-in-law Bozhana Kelley, two grandsons Steven Kelley and Christopher Kelley (Kristin) and two great-grandchildren Sean Kelley and Megan Kelley.
She spent most of her life in Frederick but had a career as a secretary for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers in downtown Washington DC. She was an active member of Grace United Church of Christ for almost 100 years. In her retirement, she kept herself very busy with beloved friends and her remarkable knitting. She knit hundreds of items to include colorful sweaters, blankets, scarfs and hats. Crossword puzzles and singing kept her happy along with her "doctor prescribed" Hershey Kisses!
Most people called her Millie and knew she would always be the one to put a positive outlook on any situation. She treated all people with kindness and did not hesitate to comfort those with less. She followed the path of Jesus like we all should.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of her life at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Saturday, February 7 at 1:00pm. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
