Mildred Harrington

Mildred E. Harrington (Mercer), 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Tranquillity of Fredericktowne Assisted Living, Frederick, MD. She was formerly a resident of Brunswick and Petersville, MD. Born on May 15, 1930, in Harmony Grove, Mildred was the daughter of the late John Ezra and Mary M. (Delauter) Mercer.

Mildred was the beloved wife of the late Blair G. Harrington, who passed away on March 26, 2021. Together they shared 70 years of marriage and were members of Bethany Lutheran Church in Brunswick, MD.

A 1947 graduate of Frederick High School, Mildred devoted her early years as a homemaker. She later entered the workforce as a waitress, serving at the Peter Pan Inn, The Sheraton Inn and Golden Corral, retiring at the age of 80.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Daphne H. Sigler and husband Robert A. Sigler, Jr. of Wolfsville, MD; three grandchildren, Robert W. Sigler of Jefferson, MD, Shamus P. Harrington (Samantha Cullen) of Harpers Ferry, WV, and Laura S. Alcarese (Andrew) of White Hall, MD; her daughter-in-law, Sheri L. Harrington of Hudson, FL; five great-grandchildren; Cameron, Logan, Talon, Atleigh and Anthony; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mildred was preceded in death by her son, Joseph P. Harrington, who passed away on Oct. 7, 2026; her sisters, Leida Garst, Hilda Ausherman, Mary Biser, Anna Jackson; and her brother, Grayson Mercer. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

The family will receive friends on November 16, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 109 First Ave., Brunswick, MD. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church or Frederick Health Hospice. Inurnment will be private and held at a later date.
