Miriam L (Rohrer) Mills was born Monday, January 4, 1926, in Tilghmanton, MD, and died on Saturday, April 18, 2026 in New Oxford, PA. She was the wife of the late Reverend Ralph E Mills.
Miriam was the daughter of William A Rohrer and Verda M (Baker) Rohrer. She was preceded in death by her brother, LaVerne; sister, her Nelda; and son-in-law, Austin Kreeger.
Miriam and Ralph were married on September 1, 1946, in Downsville, MD. Miriam is survived by her son, Gary (wife Edith), of Chambersburg, PA; daughter, Beverly Kreeger, of Quarryville, PA; and grandson, Zachary Mills, of Chambersburg, PA. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, first cousins, and their families.
Miriam was a member of the Main Street Brethren Church in Meyersdale, PA, and had attended the Hanover Church of the Brethren, since moving to New Oxford, PA. She taught Sunday School for 34 years at the Berlin Brethren Church, where her husband was the pastor.
Miriam graduated from Williamsport High School in 1944 and attended Ashland College (OH) where she received a degree in Elementary Education. Miriam taught first grade in the Salisbury, Meyersdale, and Berlin-Brothersvalley School Districts in Pennsylvania for 34 years, specializing in identifying and teaching dyslexic children.
Miriam loved knitting, reading, puzzles, and routing for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as evidenced by the photograph of her and Franco Harris that she proudly displayed in her cottage. She and her husband traveled extensively, most notably to China, Japan, Thailand, Europe and the Caribbean. For her 90th birthday Miriam raised over $4000 from the sale of knitted dishcloths, which she contributed to the Heifer Project. She was a former member of the Somerset (PA) Chapter of Eastern Star, where her husband served as the Worthy Patron. A monthly highlight for her was meeting with her cousins and their families on “Cousins” day for lunch.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026, at the St. James Brethren Church in Fairplay, Maryland. A light lunch will follow services at the church.
Interment will be a private ceremony at the Manor Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Tilghmanton, MD.
