Richard Tracey, 96, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Tranquillity At Fredericktowne in Frederick, MD.
Born on February 12, 1929, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of Bennett Francis Tracey and Adelaide Gladfelter Tracey. At the age of 16, he joined the Merchant Marines and then served 25 years in the Air Force, beginning at age 19. During his military career, he lived in Japan for 10 years, where he focused on languages and became fluent in four different languages. He received numerous military awards before continuing his career with the Department of Agriculture, where he worked until his retirement from federal service.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Bennett Francis and Adelaide Tracey; his siblings, William Francis Tracey and Adelaide Elizabeth Tracey Palmer; many nieces and nephews; and the love of his life, Shizue (Suzi) Tracey.
He is survived by his great-nieces: Shannon E. Happy, Scota R. O'Neill, and Shawna C. Shoemaker, along with his great-great-nieces and nephews: Louis and Amanda Happy, Tiegan and Caroline Johnson, and Ana, Shane, and Alysa Shoemaker. He will also be missed by Brian Lovins.
A graveside service will be held at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be offered to the family at StaufferFuneralHome.com
