With peaceful sorrow we mourn the loss of Ms. Joan Gibison Kershner, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She passed in the early morning hours on Saturday, November 1, 2025 with her family present.
Joan was born on July 12, 1932 to Abbie and Philip Gibison in Salem, NJ - the second oldest of four girls. She was raised in Salem with her three sisters until college where majored in Home Economics, graduating in 1954 from the University of Delaware. Her favorite place to vacation as a child was on the Delaware River and in later years Cape May, NJ with her children.
After college, she moved to Hagerstown, MD and worked as a Home Demonstration Agent and was in charge of 4-H in Washington Co. During this time she met her husband. They eventually moved and settled in the little town of Gamber, MD, where they had three kids.
Joan was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and served in the nursery for many years. She enjoyed knitting, floral arrangement, gardening, sewing, bird watching, and all kinds of bugs. She loved her family and enjoyed being around them.
Surviving, are her daughters, Abby Armentrout and Laura Kershner; and one son, Philip Kershner; granddaughter, Heather Poffenberger, and husband, DJ; great grandson, Tristan Poffenberger and wife Julia, great-granddaughter, Audrey Black and husband, Matthew; four great-great-grandchildren, Aurora Black, Harley Black, Thomas Black, and Ada Poffenberger; sister, Jane Bradway, of Port Norris, NJ; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip Gibison and Abbie Gibison; two sisters, Jean Powell and Judy Mahan; son-in-law, Gregory Armentrout; and one granddaughter, Brittany Rae Knight.
A private graveside service will be held.
